Of Thee I Sing

We hope you will join us this fall as we kick off our concert season with “Of Thee I Sing” in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. More than just another patriotic concert, this program will highlight the diverse cultural heritage of the United States of America, with folk songs, hymns, barbershop, jazz, rock & roll, and more. The central feature of the program will be The Testament of Freedom, written by one of the preeminent American choral composers, Randall Thompson, using lyrics written by Thomas Jefferson.

America turns 250 and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra is throwing a party. Join us for a stirring, flag-waving celebration featuring the Appalachian Men's Ensemble under Noah Delong. The program sweeps from Thomson's Suite from The River and Lowden's beloved Armed Forces Salute to Thompson's powerful The Testament of Freedom, Barber's heart-stopping Adagio for Strings, and the unmistakable jazz-age swagger of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with piano soloist Dr. Katherine Benson. A night of music as big as the country it honors.

In the Fall of 2023, AMEn celebrated our 10 year anniversary, and we are still going stronger than ever.

Our group, comprised of talented male vocalists from the heart of Appalachia, brings to life traditional folk hymns, spirituals, and contemporary works with an authenticity that is unmatched. Our dedication to quality artistry and storytelling is evident in every performance.
